Introduction to CorelDRAW

CorelDRAW is a graphics design application. Essentially, it is a computer application software designed for creating and editing images/photographs. Written in C++ so to meet up with required high performance and direct access to GPU (Graphics Processing Unit).
Graphics applications could either be designed basically for vector graphics or raster/bitmap graphics. Vector graphics are kept as mathematical paths while raster/bitmap graphics are pixel-based. Essentially, vector graphic files get interpreted mathematically every time they are opened, but raster images just get displayed as already finished pixels. CorelDRAW was first released in 1989.

- Toolbox: This panel contains tools for drawing and manipulating shapes, lines, images, texts, curves, symbols, or layers. The panel contains the pick tool, free hand tool, shape tool, smooth tool, etc.
- Document Tab: This button activates a drawing window among the open drawing windows.
- Menu bar: This bar contains the prime menu of the application. It contains the following menu buttons: File, Edit, View, Layout, Object, Effects, Bitmaps, Text, Table, Tools, Window, Help.
- Title bar: This bar displays the title/file address of the currently selected drawing window/document.
- Toolbar: This bar contains shortcuts to certain Menu commands. Some shortcuts in this bar are New, Open, Save, Open from Corel Cloud, Save to Corel Cloud, etc.
- Drawing canvas/page: This is the publishable/printable area of the drawing window/area.
- Drawing window/area: This is the entire area available for drawing and manipulating objects. It includes the printable area also called drawing canvas/page.
- Property bar: This bar is detachable and contains command buttons relative to the selected object or tool. For example, when the Circle tools is selected, the Arc tool shows up as a sub-tool in the property bar.
- Docker: Dockers are detachable boxes that contains task- and tool-related command buttons, options, and list boxes.
- Rulers: There are horizontal and vertical ruler guides for matching objects sizes to the drawing canvas/page.
- Status bar: The status bar displays position and some properties of selected objects like colour, resolution, etc.
- Navigation panel: This panel contains buttons for moving from one page to another.
- Colour palette: This panel is detachable and contains colour boxes for designing.
Visual Basic for Application (VBA) is an embedded programming language for Microsoft’s Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint). CorelDRAW also has the programming language embedded for its internal macro scripting.
The language is object oriented. Essentially, all objects in CorelDRAW can be created and manipulated using the programming language in its code editor called the Visual Basic Editor (VBE).
